DEMENTIA SUPPORT SERVICES
We help maintain a safe comfortable home environment to ensure your loved one can thrive in a familiar place and avoid agitation. We're committed to building long term relationships with our clients, and they become like family.
If you’re helping a loved one who is coping with Alzheimer’s or Dementia you are not alone. It can take a tremendous toll on your own physical and emotion well-being. If you are struggling to help your loved one with their care needs, don’t wait to get help. Friendly Neighbour is here to make your loved one's life, and yours, much easier and more enjoyable.
As their illness progresses, people with cognitive decline often communicate in non-verbal ways. We are able to connect with late stage dementia patients, using touch and music, art therapy, and games designed to stimulate and bring joy.
These may include: music therapy, art therapy, games and puzzles, looking at old photos, snd other projects that stimulate. We find that nature inspires, and will take them out for a walk or going for drive. Sometimes just seeing the world as we drive by it, stimulates emotions and verbalization.
Friendly Neighbour focuses on the person and not the disease. We plan activities that are appropriate to the cognitive abilities and compatible with his/her interests. Our care specialists have experience in providing the right level of individual care and support, while carefully monitoring everything from medication to daily activities.
During our consultation, we will get a better idea of who your loved one is and what brought them joy before they developed dementia. What did they do for a living? We’re they very social or did they refer to stay at home? If they did have hobbies, what were they? And are they able to still enjoy those in any capacity?
By learning what brought and brings them joy, we can develop a plan for them that will help to continue to be stimulated by these activities. As far as we are concerned, it’s less about the activity itself and more about the way it makes the participant feel. Our goal is to create a positive environment and activities that focus on what your loved one is still able to do, not what they can no longer do.
Contact us today to develop a unique, functional plan for your loved one.
